Festival Parade
On the morning of Pilton Festival Day over 100 adults and children in brightly coloured costumes and carrying banners, masks and drums gather outside the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon in The Square in Barnstaple. At 11am they form up into the Festival Parade headed by Barnstaple's Town
Cryer, Tom Evans, and proceed along Barnstaple High Street, across Pilton Causeway and up Pilton Street to Pilton House and Rotary Gardens. The Parade is timed to arrive by 11.45am, just before the Festival Pageant which takes place for the first time in the grounds of Pilton House at 12 noon.
The rhythm of the Festival Parade is set by The Samba Band (left) whose insistent, foot-tapping beat can be heard well before they reach Pilton Street.
